The previous snowfall didn’t yield the accumulations I hoped for, but the view out into the backyard sure was nice:

Warmth! Looks like warm temps all week. Time to wash off the garage dust.

Saw this on Friday night but didn't want to post it out of fear of jinxing it. But as it's come and gone, I can say that the GYLO 21 weather was looking and turned out pretty decent!

Looks like a wet one tomorrow (Sep 1, 2021), courtesy of the Ida rain (and hopefully sans the Ida winds):

We were spoiled by the 70- and 80-degree October days. November is so far not as kind. Watch those cold twisty backroads!

Warm but WET this week! Though, Sunday (26th) was good. Brought the car out of the garage for a drive.

We lost power around 11:30AM Monday, in Oakton, VA. We waited until about 3PM to shovel the driveway. Not too bad - the snow was mostly dry and pretty light. The power came back on around 5:15PM. Lucky for us, we had replaced all our windows a couple of years ago, and just installed new siding earlier this year. The house went from 66F down to 54F, before power was restored. We had just over 7" of snow. It was nice to have a hot dinner! Today (Tuesday morning, 1/4/22), there are still 129 houses without power, just outside our neighborhood. Repair crews arrived this morning, and the main road near us is closed. The last pic is of the post-shoveling lounge... Hope everyone is OK, and none of you are stuck out on I-95!! --Bob Collum

^Pretty snowfall. Light and fluffy's the good stuff, and rare in our parts! And several hours of shoveling outside in the cold certainly makes the lounging even better, especially with hot chocolate or soup.
We might get a little more tomorrow (Thursday).

Cold! Temp in the low teens F means it's time to crank up the wood stove. With well-seasoned firewood, it'll sit at 600F for hours unattended and keep the house toasty. On mornings when it's still burning from the night before, I can add firewood and keep it going. In my house, the other side of the fireplace is the garage and, if the cinder blocks become warm enough, the garage will benefit from the wood stove, too -- not toasty, but enough to keep it above freezing (the garage is not insulated).

How unexpected to go out in 61F weather Friday to find fresh salt lines. I guess they think we'll get something on Sunday.

Always a hoot. Trees down the road from me have gotten hit several times. Good excuse to wear the race helmet while in the house!
