When I was growing up, Johnny Carson was the king of late night TV. He was a fixture in every American home. When he was off, NBC selected a highly-rated, memorable episode from their archives, and aired that older episode. It was always hilarious, and very entertaining. It was called 'Best of Carson', and was very popular. I hope people enjoy reminiscing, like I do.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are missing the socialization that we have taken for granted. Medical experts insist that social distancing is critical to prevent crushing our medical infrastructure, so for the time being, cars & coffee events (as well as other social gatherings) are not a good idea. To help fill the gap, I am asking everyone to share pictures and stories from past memorable Katie's Saturdays.
My contribution: This coming April 4, 2020 will make 10 years of the 'official' Katie's Cars & Coffee weekly event. I was notified by an Elise owner, Mike in Alexandria, about a new event that popped up in Great Falls, VA. I first went, long before it was an official gathering, on Halloween 2009. Attendance was modest, but there were some marvelous vehicles there. Peter Garahan brought out his antique fire engine, while Mike and I drove our Elises, and there was a beautifully-restored Mini. Bob Morris, who saw the big cars & coffee in Southern California, brought the idea of establishing a Katie's Cars & Coffee weekly event to Katie's owner Mike Kearney, drove his Kaiser Darrin.
What pictures and stories do you have to share?

Between Katie's and NoVA Lotus, Debbie and I have made a lot of friends. Here are some pictures, through the years, of some of those friends... First pic is Schuyler and Ivy, pre-marriage, and even pre-Elise!

Here are some of my photos from Oct 23, 2010, the first time I attended Katie's and, really, the first time I attended any kind of a cars and coffee ever. And what a better venue than the compact and semi-tucked-away lots around Katie's for such an initiation. Crowded, everyone was talking cars and the number of unique beautiful cars was truly astonishing. And our cars dominated the front lot that day! A Countach and LM002 (long before the Urus!) A couple more: Similar to the first photo I posted above, only, once Mark left, another Lotus filled the void! That was a great morning!

This one's from November 12, 2011. There's a saying which goes along the lines of you tend to regret the things you didn't do more so than the things you did. Well, this is an example of something that I didn't do and that I regret. I was parked closer to the Katie's storefront, as I was in the above post's photos. And, in my chrome orange Elise, as I was getting ready to leave, I noticed that a spot opened up next to the orange roadster a little farther down. I was already in the car, the car was running and I was getting ready to move my car anyway to head home. I thought about instead simply moving my car next to the roadster. But for some reason, I decided not to do so. Maybe because I woke up at 3:30 am to make it down to Katie's before the spots filled up. Not sure about the reason; but I regret not taking the unique and rare opportunity to park next to it. Would have made for an awesome compare!
