NoVa Lotus member Marc Caden brought this to our attention:
Lotus and the Mercedes Benz Club of America (MBCA) sponsor a HPDE/Track event at Watkins Glen each year, which is a Lotus, Ltd.-sponsored event. Additionally, the MBCA runs an HPDE/Track event each summer at Summit Point on the Shenandoah Circuit. As you may know, the Shenandoah Circuit is a favorite of Lotus owners because of its focus on handling versus raw straight line power. The MBCA HPDE is a very safe and professionally run event with instructors assigned to students in the novice and intermediate groups. The organizer welcomes the participation of the local Lotus club and its members. The question is whether there is sufficient interest from our members to attend in significant numbers. Presently, there are no local motorsport events (e.g., autocross and track) sponsored specifically for Lotus owners. As a result, most local Lotus owners participate in such events through the Porsche Club and SCCA. However, this might be a nice way to give us a toe hold on at least one motorsports event for Lotus owners locally. The MBCA Shenandoah event is scheduled for September 26 and 27, 2020. If you are seriously interested, say so here. I have no doubt we could generate substantial interest. Enough to have an event of our own? We will have to see. Respond to this thread, if interested.

I would love to see you guys on the track. As long as this does not conflict with my TT schedule (not yet released), I'm interested.

For those folks not familiar with this track, it's relatively close to home and THIS is its shape! Lots of cool turns, including a banked, grippy carousel (upper right half circle on the above map)! You don't have to go blazing fast to have fun on this track. And there's a beautiful skid pad within the track's interior for testing limits (the use of which I believe is determined by whatever group hosts the event). An owner on LotusTalk posted that he did a track day with the MBCA group this year.

OK, so we have some interest by 3 people. Good point about LOG, too.
I'm sure these guys will want more interest to actually have a track event centered around (at least largely centered around) Lotus. I will let them know, after we have some time to gather more interest. If you know a Lotus driver that would be interested, have them get on here and post that they are interested.
Thanks,
Bob Collum

Is it to early to think about a gathering of 7’s at the 2020 Jefferson 500.

Is it to early to think about a gathering of 7’s at the 2020 Jefferson 500. Did you know that there's a track day exclusively for Sevens at NJ Motorsports Park, every July 4th weekend? They organize it over on USA7S.com. I can never make it, because my wife and her sister have birthdays that weekend, every year.

I have attended this HPDE sponsored by the MBCA for the last few years. It is a very well event run by a long time friend and instructors are provided for novice/intermediate run groups. The MBCA has expressed a willingness to include Lotus as part of the event and we are hoping for a good turn out. If you haven't driven the Shenandoah Circuit, it is perfectly suited to our agile little cars. It is a highly technical circuit with over 20 turns and a to scale recreation of the Nurburgring's Karousel. There will also be a wet skid pad open to practice your car control skills. I will be attending and serving as an instructor. Looking forward to seeing you there.
