I am sad to relay the loss of two long-time Lotus acquaintances.
Robert Konick, known online by the name 'WallabyGuy' was a longtime part of the US Lotus scene. You might know him from his time selling Lotus cars at a dealership in New England.
Later, he ran Lotus Garage, selling Lotus parts. He was well-known in the community as a fine, decent man.
Robert was an early US Elise owner. He was later involved in a horrible accident - he was rear-ended while driving his Elise, and had extensive back/neck/head trauma. The effects of this accident followed him for years, the remainder of his life. Recently, he was admitted to a hospital in his native Philadelphia, for surgery related lingering effects of his spine/brain injuries.
This recent operation was not successful. He was found to have irreversible brain stem damage, and would not recover. Robert had a Do Not Resuscitate order in place, so the hospital prepared to harvest his organs - he was a big supporter of organ donations. Robert Konick will be missed by his many friends, throughout the country.
If you have ever attended a Lotus Owners Gathering, you have at least seen Doug Chadwick. Doug was the professional photographer who took the panoramic photos of the Lotus cars at every LOG. He was the one directing where each group of cars was to go, calling to helpers with a bullhorn, and directing activities from the boom lift. Once the panoramic pictures were taken, he went back to the hotel, to edit the images as needed, so he could have images to display, so you could purchase a copy.
Doug was a very talented photographer, but he was an artist with much more range than that. Here is a brief biography of Doug: www.patchworkfilms.com/doug.htm
Below are the panoramic photos from Doug that we have displayed on a wall in our home. I keep them to remind me of the great times we have had with friends, over the years, at LOG.
Now, they will also remind us of the great guy we knew. LOG won't be the same without Doug Chadwick.
