Law enforcement agencies in Montgomery County continue to receive numerous complaints about vehicles with modified exhausts & racing vehicles traveling throughout the Cities of Gaithersburg & Rockville and Montgomery County. Many of these types of vehicles gather at non-permitted car shows and other locations within City limits & other parts of the County. These loud & racing vehicles pose a traffic safety risk and affect the quality of life of our residents & visitors.
In a joint operation to address these concerns, allied officers & troopers from the Maryland State Police – Rockville Barrack, the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, the Montgomery County Police, Rockville City Police, and Gaithersburg Police formed an initiative to combat loud exhaust & excessive speed violations. It took place during the evening of April 20.
The focus of the operation was along Maryland Route 355, from Professional Drive in Gaithersburg to Edmonston Drive in Rockville. Troopers from the Rockville Barrack and officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police & Montgomery County Police concentrated their efforts along the entire stretch, while officers from Gaithersburg Police concentrated on the portion between Professional Drive & Shady Grove Road. Officers from the Rockville City Police focused on the stretch from Shady Grove Road to Edmonston Drive.
Overall, the combined efforts yielded the following results:
118 traffic stops
68 citations
57 warnings
49 Equipment Repair Orders
2 criminal arrests (1 for Controlled Dangerous Substance/1 for a warrant)
