I think I have found a Lotus Europa. It’s been sitting in a field near my home for many years. It looks to be complete. I do not know much about these cars. I only have a couple pics and that’s of the mirrors and wheels. I will take more pics this week. Is there any value in these early cars? I know who the owners are and considered buying. Any advice would be great. Mike

Mike: Europa values have been going up in recent years, though nowhere near the value of an Elan. If it's been sitting around outside 'for years', the body could well be shot, and the frame could be rusted. Still, a motivated person could put together a very good Europa with not much more than the VIN tag. Spyder, I believe, still makes an improved backbone chassis, and Banks Garage can provide pretty much anything else you'd want. Of course, you'd have to find someone who desperately wants to spend insane money, knowing they won't get it back - and it's possible that such people exist. I'd love to see pictures! Below is my old '72 Europa TwinCam, as it was shipping out to its new owner, back in 2001. Note the 'cut-down' panel, behind the passenger compartment, next to the engine lid, where I am signing paperwork. This is a Europa TwinCam. Earlier Europas had a 'sail panel' that was a straight, sloping line from the roof to the rear; these earlier Europas has a Renault R16 engine. --Bob Collum
