Perspective is an amazing thing... Looking at this picture, you could believe that the Seven is SIGNIFICANTLY bigger than the Elise. In fact, the Seven is over 17" shorter, front-to-rear, than the Elise. --Bob Collum

At the warehouse yesterday where I do some volunteer work, I took the opportunity for an industrial-looking shot:

Well... this just HAS to be the photo of the week! The first of the U.S. customer Emiras has arrived at the Port of Baltimore... (Not my picture...) It should not be too long until we start seeing them on the road! OK, who has one on order? Have you heard from your dealer yet? (I'm told that all of the ones in port right now are V6, sticks.) --Bob Collum

I'm very aware of just how 'sensitive' a particular car is to a paint scheme like the Gold Leaf Team Lotus livery. What do you think of this Emira? I show my Elise, as a guide to what I think is a more-appropriate ratio of red-to-white... --Bob Collum

I think the Emira looks good with it. Though, I think it needs gold trim along the white rear section, too (maybe it's there but not easily seen in that picture). The front could use treatment, too. Funny, the livery makes the Emira look like a much smaller car (again, in that picture).

I borrowed this from the Lotus Owners Facebook site. We will all be feeling this way for a while... --Bob Collum

Looking at the 'OG' post on LotusTalk, I got to thinking about early days with our Elise. Below are some pics of great memories... Me, taking delivery on the Fair Oaks Mall parking lot. In May of 2007. somebody on LTalk arranged a drive. We started from a parking lot near Leesburg, and drove down towards Middleburg. We had an unfortunate incident - the lead car came to a stop, but was just over a rise. Subsequent cars came over the rise, and saw the stopped car at the last second. A dark blue Elise went off-road, and had to be towed. The guy ahead of us, in a very nice Cobra replica, did a heroic save, but tagged the rear fender of his car on a telephone pole. Unfortunate, but we recovered, and had a pretty good time, the rest of the drive. That picture was taken right after the Elise crashed, and the Cobra fishtailed! A special note - Tim Mullin, one of THE original Elise Guys in our area, was always very generous in sharing his enthusiasm for Lotus. I show a pic of Tim, having my wife, Debbie, sit in his Chrome Orange Elise on the drive. (As always, Tim was wearing a Chrome Orange shirt!) The lineup of colorful Elises at the stop sign remains one of my favorites. --Bob Collum

Some more pics from that drive, back on May 19th, 2007. Anybody here that was on that drive? I remember, Jay Jagolta was on the drive. I can't remember what color his Elise was. He later bought a black Elise, and later sold it, when he moved to California. Tim Mullin, the Lotus ambassador (always letting everybody sit in his car), was there. Sadly, Tim passed away, several years ago... Tim was a fixture on LotusTalk, back in the day. --Bob Collum

The Aston was in front of us for a fair part of the drive. (I've always loved Astons... that's why I went 'cheap', and bought a Jaguar XK Coupe for a few years!) --Bob Collum

Fine weather for my appointment at D&V! Amazingly even with summer tires I didn't slip even once.

BMW has a "frozen" paint, just a fancy matte finish. YOUR version, however, your frozen version is the real deal!

Mark today down (3/12/24), as the first day this year we had good enough weather to wash the Elise! (My main problem is, the placement of my hose bib is swampy until everything dries out!) Below are before-and-after pics of our car. While I L-O-V-E my Gold Leaf Team Lotus livery, I admit I was warned by my detailer, that the white along the bottom would show EVERY spot of dirt from the road. (You'd have thought I would have learned, back when I bought my Acura Integra, back in 1987, with white wheels... you'd be wrong.) A shameless plug here - the vinyl wrap was a fairly complicated job, requiring a fair amount of black plastic trim removal. Darryl from Odds & Ends Detailing contracted the vinyl guy, and he did an amazing job. Once done, Darryl specified a first-rate clear-bra, to cover, not only the white vinyl, but also several inches above it. I'm really glad we did it! But... we were not done yet! Darryl did a complete Adam's Ceramic Coat treatment on the car. All this work was done in May of 2020. Please note: I have done NO waxing of this car since then! I wash it every couple of months in good weather, and I do the Adam's detail spray, if I'm going to an actual car show. I did buy the Lotus Sport 5-spoke wheels in early 2021, and I had them gold powder-coated right away. These are my all-time favorite Elise wheels, and the gold is exactly the look I wanted, with the GLTL livery. After living with them for a couple of years, I realized that they got even dirtier than my old silver LSS wheels - though, they are a bit easier to clean. During a conversation with Darryl, late last year, he mentioned that it's become popular to use a ceramic-coating product on wheels recently. He says it's especially popular with Porsche owners, who have MAJOR problems with grubby wheels. He says, while the ceramic coating isn't rated to last as long as the body ceramic coating, due to the environment of wheels, you should normally expect a couple of years of life, and generally do not need to do much more than hose them off. Darryl has done a lot of work on my Lotus, and on other NoVA Lotus members' cars. He has cleaned up black mold under the OE clear bra on an Elise, and has repaired drooping headliners on Elise hardtops, as well. Come on Spring!! --Bob Collum Before our first 2024 wash:After our 3/12/24 wash:
