Anyone who has owned an Elise in the Northern Virginia area knows the frustration; the computer that emissions testing that Virginia stations use cannot talk to the Elise ECU. For the entire time I have had the Elise (since 2007), every two years, the testing station tries plugging into the ECU, and comes to me, telling me I have to call the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and I have to ask DEQ if the testing station can do the tailpipe test, on a dyno. A waste of everybody's time! As a bonus, DEQ has told me, EVERY SINGLE TIME, that they will be 'fixing' the problem, and their software will 'see' the ECU, next time! This has not happened. This year, I had two straight testing stations tell me (after waiting in line for the test), that they would not put my Lotus on their rollers, due to 'liability issues'. This included the station that did the test of my car on their rollers, two years prior. (I showed them the picture below.) Frustrated, I went to a repair place I have used for work before - Matt Curry's Craftsman Auto, 11611 Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA. This location is diagonally across from the Fairfax Wegman's. I dropped by on Tuesday, and scheduled to come in for the emissions test first thing Thursday - 7:00AM. They were courteous, and quick. They did NOT require me to call DEQ. The car passed, and I was out, shortly after 7:30AM. It's well worth going to this facility for your inspections, and I have had good luck with them for various work, on all my cars. BONUS: This Craftsman location's dyno rollers are flush with the ground - not elevated, like the one below!--Bob Collum

When I first moved here I went to three or four other places that couldn't do my emissions. Then I found Craftsman Auto Care, they had a Porsche race car parked out front, a Cobra in the shop, and handled my car with no trouble. Been going there for service on all of my cars ever since!
