This year's charity event - the British Reliability Run, has a wrinkle. In order to get a few more participants, the organizers are allowing some select 1979 or older European cars to enter. I expect to see a Porsche or two, as well as maybe a Ferrari, a BMW, and maybe a Mercedes. Most participants will be in British cars... and we'd love to have more Lotus participation! The 2023 schedule has us starting on Saturday, Sept. 30th from somewhere in Virginia, staying overnight at the Canaan Valley Resort (home of LOG last year), and finishing up on Sunday, Oct. 1st. I missed last year, but participated in all the DC events, from 2017 thru 2021. I will again drive the Seven, and invite any Lotus owners whose cars qualify to join me. The requirements are to pledge to collect at least $1000 in charitable donations to our cause - Our Military Kids. This is a charity that collects money for extracurricular activities for the children of deployed active military members. I have found this to be a GREAT group of people, and they have really fun routes mapped. In general, they are looking for cars that qualify for antique plates, but some exceptions will possibly be made - for instance, you won't be accepted with an Elise, Exige, or Evora, or even a V8 Esprit... but I have it on good authority that they would be very happy to have an earlier Esprit, or Elan, or Europa participate in the event. Contact me if you have any questions - about the event, the people involved, the costs, the charity, or collecting donations. It's been a great time for us, every year! --Bob Collum
