It's ben a rough year-plus for everybody. The sudden good weather seemed like an excuse to go to drive your Lotus, and see other owners. Once again, with minimal planning (my specialty), we invited everyone to the Blue Iguana parking lot in Fairfax. This time, we scheduled it on a Saturday morning, because Sunday's weather didn't look good. Mark Franke was working, so missed this event, but we had a terrific turnout, anyway. 13 Lotus turned out - but WHAT a variety of Lotus cars! In generally chronological order, we had -
A Caterham 7. (It's my car, and I'm counting it as a Lotus, dammit!)
6 Elises. (WAIT A MINUTE... what's so special about the Elise, the most common Lotus car in history? Well, I am including in that number 1 Exige, 1 S1 Elise, and 1 340R... so, pretty special!)
2 Esprits. 1 was a 1987 (I think) and Bob Scates' S1 Esprit. We would have seen Jeffrey Hammer's newly-restored Esprit, but you'll see why in a second...
4 Evoras. It's always nice to see Lotus latest model 'out in the wild'. It's especially nice to see Jeffrey Hammer's most recent acquisition, his 2021 Essex Blue Evora GT. He just got it a week ago. Congrats, Jeffrey!
We will do some more of these impromptu meet-ups, as the weather improves, and as more and more people are vaccinated. Here's hoping we can do a 'live' GYLO in the next few months. Feel free to offer locations and dates for your own get-togethers. You can post on this website, and we can help out by sending email bulletins, as needed.
Thanks!
Bob Collum
P.S.: Remember, we are still trying to reach 40 subscribers to the virtual Classic Team Lotus tour. The cost is $25 per person. We currently have 27 confirmed attendees, but we will need 40 people for the club to break even. Classic Team Lotus is run by Colin Chapman's son Clive, and employs several former Team Lotus mechanics, working to restore an impressive roster of former Team Lotus cars.
