NoVA Lotus folks:
At this point in 2020, if you’re not going stir-crazy, you should be. People have been asking about Lotus events, and we have some gatherings coming up.
NoVA Lotus Parking Lot Gathering – The first time we did this – a Lotus-themed cars & coffee - was back on July 12th, and we had a great turnout!
We will gather again on Sunday, Sept. 13th, 10:00AM. Location: Blue Iguana parking lot, 12727 Shoppes Lane Fairfax, VA. If you are interested in a drive (starting at 7:15AM, ending at Blue Iguana by 9:45AM), let us know ASAP. We will be handing out VGYLO prizes at this event. We will be masked and socially distanced at this event.
Calling all Esprits! We are organizing a photo shoot for a group of Lotus Esprits (all models). The scheduled date is Sunday afternoon, September 20th. Esprit owners, please let us know by return email, if you would like to participate. Please let us know the year and model of your Esprit(s). We will send you details, including location and time, by return email.
GYLO XX - We had a great turnout for our first-ever Virtual Get Your Lotus Out event, back on May 31st. Let’s do it again! VGYLO XX: Sunday, October11. Send us
the best picture of your Lotus. We will be collecting your submissions, starting September 27th thru October 6th. Voting online from October 7th thru October 9th. VGYLO ZOOM call will be Sunday, Oct. 11th, 1:00PM.
America’s British Reliability Run (ABRR) – I have participated in this charity ‘endurance’ drive the past three years. Normally, it is a three-day, three-state drive.
This year, due to concerns about staying in a hotel, and finding safe places to eat, the DC chapter of ABRR has cut the event down to a single day, which will be
Saturday, October 17th. We will start and end in Middleburg, VA, probably driving about 230 miles Meals will be provided by a chef that works for one of the
ABRR organizers. This is a really great drive (not a race), and the people are a lot of fun.
In order to participate in ABRR, you need to drive a ‘vintage’ British car. While that means that your Elise, Exige or Evora won’t be eligible, most other Lotuses will be fine.
(Contact me if you have any questions about eligibility, or general questions about the run itself.)
Everything about this year’s ABRR has been shrunk, including the entry fee. This year, the entry fee is $195. That covers route maps, breakfast and lunch for driver & co-pilot
(you will want a co-pilot/navigator for this drive), as well as the flatbed tow truck, mechanics, and ‘car of shame’, should you need it. (In our first year on ABRR,
Debbie and I drove the ‘car of shame’ after the Seven’s fuel pump gave up!) Each team is still endeavoring to collect money for the chosen charity – Our Military
Kids, a fund for extracurricular activities for the children of deployed or hospitalized Reserve and National Guard troops.
I have personally pledged to donate $100 to the charity fund for the first other Lotus that signs up for the 2020 ABRR. If you cannot participate, here is the link to our team’s website. We appreciate any and all contributions!
