I happen to have Odyssey batteries in both our Elise and our Seven. Odyssey batteries are "power-AGM" batteries - low-weight, dry batteries. My charger is a CTEK, model MUS 4.3.
This past Saturday morning, my Elise would not start, even though the CTEK showed green. When I switched the CTEK to the cold weather mode (the snowflake icon), and left it for 24 hours, the Elise started right up. I contacted CTEK Customer Support, and they told me that an AGM battery requires a higher-voltage charge, so it should be set to the cold weather setting, all the time. There is a 'Recondition' setting on my CTEK, but their support group said I should NEVER use 'Recondition' on an AGM battery.
Be sure to know what kind of battery you have, and how to use your charger/reconditioner for that type of battery. Keeping the cars inside, and having the CTEK always connected (in the right mode!) will, I'm sure, extend the useful life of the battery.

I have two different CTEKs and can't remember the model names of either, but I have had the one on the Lotus connected but just not charging a couple times, too.

I have two different CTEKs and can't remember the model names of either, but I have had the one on the Lotus connected but just not charging a couple times, too. I've had great luck with the CTEKs. I have 3 of them, and have recommended them many times. In this case, the charging device (set to the automobile setting) sequenced through all the LEDs, and led me to believe everything was fine with the battery. When I disconnected the charger, and tried to start up last Saturday, I got only the whirring, followed by a click-click-click-click, each time I pressed the Start button. My Odyssey battery is, I think, about 5 or 6 years old. Once I put the CTEK on cold weather setting, and left it there for 24 hours, it starts just fine. --Bob Collum

When I bought my Braille B2015, I started researching chargers again and found an old thread on LotusTalk, where our very own Tim Mullen had recommended the BatteryMINDer 2012-AGM, which is what I wound up getting. Yes, Tim's still giving valuable advice! What's cool about this one is that it's got a temperature probe, which it uses to adjust the output to compensate for both hotter temps and colder temps. I guess it's similar to CTEK's cold weather function; but it does it automatically. I checked the voltage while it was charging in my cold garage and the voltage output was higher than the Battery Tender Jr. at the same temp; but only by around .5V. It's also got a "continuous desulfating" function and I'm curious as to whether it can bring back my Optima.
