Seeing as I need to have no excuses to skip track days this year, I need to get a helmet. I am leaning towards a closed face since I have the airbag and open faced helmets remind me of early NASCAR. Since I can't grow a mustache, the NASCAR look isn't for me. I also want a 2015 cert so I can keep it as long as possible. So that all narrows it down to about a million choices ranging from a couple hundred bucks to $5,000+. What are some features that you've found to be useless (intercom comes to mind) and others you wouldn't go without? I know of the big, name brands; what are the best value/ bang for your buck and which are resting on their laurels? rdgrcr ksm almighty ?

I like my $300 full face G-Force. I've had it since 2010. I average maybe only 4 or so track days a year; but I've found that helmet comfortable even in 90-degree heat. And, to me, I think it feels light enough weight-wise and it looks decent. No intercom; but an earpiece fits in there quite comfortably. It came with an anti-fog piece that helps prevent one's breath from hitting the eye shield; but I've never had to use it. Actually, that helmet is out of cert this year and I need to find a new helmet this year as well and I'm leaning towards another G-Force -- maybe a GF3 or EX9. I can't justify anything super feather light and I don't need any special ventilation/cooling systems. I don't race. My sessions are around 30 minutes each. On warmer days, I'll down a Gatorade beforehand. In short, I guess my can't-do-without features are simply full face and a visor. You can get optional tinted visor pieces as accessories; but I just use my sunglasses.

Thanks guys. The AR-10 looks nice, but I really want to stay away from 2010s so I can get more life out of it. They don't list a 2015 on that site though :/

If you need to see a pretty decent selection of helmets in person, to try them on, I liked - www.ogracing.com/It's up 606, near the Dulles Mail Facility. Their website seems to have a lot of variety. The shop itself is not very big. --Bob Collum

Yeah, I was previously assuming I'd just have to guess and get lucky. Being able to try them on would be a huge help, but they are only open while I am at work :/

Yeah, I hate that about OG too. With that said though, this isn't a decision to roll the dice on.

I myself still haven't purchased one yet and might have an opportunity to hit that store during the day on Friday. Still leaning towards the G-Force as I'm familiar with it; but opened to options.

I haven't but I was actually just looking again yesterday. HJC has a new version, the AR-III, that is SA2015, so I am leaning towards that. I'll probably just order it online and return it if it doesn't fit well. I really don't want to spend two hours in traffic just to get one, haha.
