There were TWO Caterham 7's at Katie's today! (Why didn't I bring mine, to make it three? - here's why -)
At 3:15AM, we heard a 'crash' in the street in front of our house. I looked out the window, and saw a car stopped, half-a-block beyond our house. This has happened before, and it was a giant tree that came down in the street. That's NOT what this was. A young man from down the street hit our mailbox (removing his rightside rearview mirror in the process - both left in our driveway). By the time I got dressed and went out, still suspecting it was a tree down, the car was gone. (Our street is VERY dark at night.) As I walked down to the street, I almost tripped over the rearview mirror, then saw the mailbox down, as well.
I call the Fairfax Police non-emergency number. Our street is a dead-end; at 3:15AM, it could only be somebody delivering papers, or a local. We got extraordinarily lucky - as we waited for the police to show up, a car drives down our street... followed by a police car, and a second police car. The police turned on their flashing lights, and pulled the driver over about a block down the street. It took about 30 minutes, and one of the police came back, and explained that it was the son of people at a house about 100 yards down our street. He admitted that he had been texting, ran wide on the curve in front of our house, and clipped the mailbox.
We filed a report, and should have their insurance make us whole on this, so no problem. BUT... standing outside all that time, I was so cold, I decided to take the MUCH warmer Elise to Katie's.
An exciting day!
BTW - that's a golf bag in the red Seven; who said it's not practical?
