Deer this time of year in this area are nuts and, recently, one emerged from the darkness, running at a pretty good velocity, and slammed into the side of my F-Pace. Before it ran off, it was kind enough to put at least one dent into every body panel along the entire driver's side, including taking out the driver's side mirror, breaking the housing loose from the stalk, nearly ripping the entire mirror assembly from the car altogether and shattering the mirror glass to bits.
I searched around the house for something that I could use as temporary mirror glass, such as a cycling mirror, and also checked the local 7-11 to see if they had one of those small, stick-on round convex mirrors; but nothing. Time was of the essence as this was the night before we were supposed to get a little bit of snow and ice, beginning at any moment (and the F-Pace was not in the garage) and the temp was already near freezing (eliciting concerns of whether glue would work). I was about to head to the 24-hour Wal-Mart when, fortunately, I remembered about the RLS extended mirrors I ordered several years ago from the original RLS owner. Back then, one of the mirrors arrived with a small chip in the mirror coating and I was sent a replacement and told to not bother sending back in the chipped one. Now, not only did I still have the extra glass, a bonus was that it was also for the driver's side. Of course, I had to figure out a way to mount it.
Queue: Gorilla brand duct tape; Gorilla liquid glue; 10lb outdoor mounting tape and some electrical tape to keep it all tacked into place until the glue started to hold:
(Did not look at camera when taking this photo).
It's nice glass! Though, to adjust the angle, as the mirror glass didn't move, I had to adjust the entire housing and re-duct-tape the housing back to the stalk when the angle was good.
