SCCA High Performance Driving Event, Saturday & Sunday, July 21 & 22. There are at least 4 Lotus signed up for this, with our own NoVA Lotus members - Duane, Tyler, Caleb & Bryan. You can go as a spectator - there is no admission cost. Be sure to bring a chair, shade, sunscreen, and something cold to drink. It's going to be HOT trackside! summitpoint-raceway.com/event/scca-pdx-2-2018-07-21/ For those who want to go to Summit Point on Sunday, you can go to the track, leave mid-afternoon, and still make Mark Franke's Cars & Crabs** event: novalotusclub.freeforums.net/thread/406/cars-crabs-event-sunday-4pm** Disclaimer: Mark will not have his Esprit at this event; it's in the shop. Also, I have it on good authority that Mark is crab-free. Still, he insists on calling this event Cars & Crabs. Come on out, whether or not you have a Lotus - or crabs.

Curious as to how this went. Hopefully, some sessions were dry!

It was a blast. Two of four sessions on Saturday were dry, and I left Sunday after the third dry session. I thought I had a broken cam lift bolt and went home a little early.

Sorry about your bolt. Although, you say "thought" you had one; so perhaps not, hopefully; but liking that you got some decent sessions in.

It turned out to be a bolt that had fallen down by the plug coils, so I couldn't see it under the plastic cover. It made a subtle rattling sound that was emanating directly from the camshafts, so I babied it home and found it when taking the valve cover off. I went ahead and checked the cams though, and everything looked pristine! My splitter, on the other hand, did not survive. Under braking, the splitter would smash into the pavement and only shreds remain now. Definitely glad I didn't get spendy with it. Here's what's left: Most of us camped at the track, so this is from Sunday morning. Bonus points if you get the 129 reference.

Regardless of the weather, the event was great. You guys missed out.

Wow! Are you just braking that hard that the splitter slams onto the ground like that? What material? Haven't had that happen yet; but I've seen in photos where my far left or right splitter edge is very close to the ground on a hard turn. Mine's about 3.5 inches of the ground at rest. Though, busted the splitter once rolling down into the carousel late and scraping along that angle between the top and banked surfaces. This one was carbon fiber over fiberglass: I might know the 129 reference; but only because I did some Googling. I won't say anything in case anyone knows it straight up.

Definitely bummed to not make it out there. BTW, looks like you guys parked near the food. Nice strategic spot!

I think you guys need stiffer springs if you're destroying splitters like that.

I think you guys need stiffer springs if you're destroying splitters like that. I'm on stiff dampers already (LSS), so I am thinking either they are worn out or my bushings are. When the front clam comes off for insurance, I am going to see about replacing anything that looks suspect. ksm I am braking as hard as possible. My ABS works perfectly with my tire/pad/wheel combo and manages the threshold far better and more consistently than I could do on my own, but, that being said, my tires just don't have the outright grip than <200TW tires have. Given that, it should not be dragging. I'm dragging just under heavy braking on smooth pavement. Air may be pushing it down ever so slightly, but I'd be shocked if that's a major factor.

Dampers =/= springs. They serve 2 completely different purposes.
You need stiffer springs.
I guess to be fair your dampers could also be worn out, but my assessment remains.

Duh, I know they are different. My static ride height is not sagging though, and it is more common for dampers to wear out sooner that springs. If spring stiffness was the problem, the problem would be far more widespread. It took over 100,000m miles on my daily for the springs to start sagging, and even then it was just a fraction of an inch. Common wisdom to replace shocks every 50k miles, and mine exceeded that.

Well, I think I found at least an exacerbating factor - no bumpstops whatsoever. They were completely disintegrated, so I think I am going to go with Nitron SAs.
